The polar bear is the epitome of the animal world and represents the
shaman's power. I made this bear in the form of a shaman in a trance. The
smooth surfaces are used much like a canvas, covered with pictographs and
images from ancient Paleolithic times. There are hunting scenes, and
scenes with spirits, birds, animals, migrating caribou, thunderbirds,
spirit masks, and drum dancing. I call it Our Ancestors because until
recent times many of our images that are seen on the sculpture were still
a part of our daily lives.
